University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Carolina's premier engineering organization

R.A.M. Engineering is a student organization at UNC Chapel Hill for robotics, aeronautics, and manufacturing. We design and build aircraft, robots, and hardware with research labs, academic departments, and industry partners. Members gain hands-on project experience and a network of peers and professionals in the field.

Industry-level rigor

We run like a small lab inside UNC: our engineers design, test, scrap a board, and try again. Rockets, robots, and custom silicon live in the same orbit with an intuition that the work will always grow beyond blueprints.

Hands-on hardware

Members solder, mill, write firmware, and argue over tolerances in workspaces across campus. With our lab partners and access to state-of-the-art machinery, we propel our ambitions to a limit that does not exist.

Our Divisions

Carolina Skylab

Air & space systems

Engineers design, build, and fly aircraft, drones, and rockets. Past projects include a custom designed and fabricated F-Class solid rocket motor and an in-house developed flight controller for FPV drones.

Ram Robotics

Autonomous systems & mechatronics

Engineers develop machines that sense, plan, and act on software that for navigation, manipulation, and control that we develop ourselves. Current projects range from a quadraped robot to an autonomous system designed for the UNC Facilities Deptartment.

Carolina ChipFab

Silicon design & fabrication

Engineers here work on the forefront of semiconductors at Carolina. We design and fabricate hardware, covering circuit layout, process, packaging, and testing from concept to a finished chip. Current projects inlcude a 2-qubit quantum computer and a semiconductor fab.
